Facts about the genus Ammotragus, the Barbary sheep
Aoudad A native of North Africa, the aoudad (also known as the Barbary sheep) is actually an intermediate species between a sheep and a goat.
Barbary Sheep are sandy brown with a slightly lighter underbelly.
Barbary sheep are tawny in color with white on the inside of their ears, chin and legs.
Conservation: Conservation measures do not appear necessary as the barbary sheep is still common over much of its range, although long periods of drought have depleted some flocks.
I don't know which breeds of the animal make the best milkers although—around the Mediterranean basin—Barbary sheep are held in high esteem.
The Barbary sheep is the only wild sheep indigenous to Africa.
