Chiru are virtually exclusive to the Tibetan Plateau, though they occasionally wander into India’s Ladakh region.

Description: Tibetan Antelope, or Chiru, are virtually exclusive to the Tibetan Plateau, living at elevations over 4,300 meters (14,000 feet) above sea level.

The chiru are skinned and the raw shahtoosh is collected and smuggled to India, where it is manufactured into shawls in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the only location in the world where shahtoosh possession and manufacture are officially legalized.
